Digital and Technology Solutions apprenticeship degrees are based on the Level 6 Digital and Technology Solutions Professional apprenticeship standard. This standard is approved by the Skills Funding Agency (SFA) and the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), ensuring the course meets nationally recognised requirements for degree-level apprenticeships.
The apprenticeship standard was developed in collaboration with leading employers, including Fujitsu, Hewlett Packard, IBM, BT, Ford, Network Rail and Lloyds Banking Group. Their involvement helps ensure the skills and knowledge taught on the course reflect current industry needs.
This is a practical, work-based course designed to prepare you for a career in computing by developing skills you can apply directly in the workplace.
UEL holds academy status with industry leaders Microsoft and CompTIA, meaning the course is aligned with recognised industry frameworks and standards. This strengthens the relevance of your qualification and supports your progression into professional computing roles.
How you'll learn
Learning on the job is a core part of all apprenticeship degrees, including the BSc (Hons) Digital and Technology Solutions.
Typically, you will spend 80 per cent of your time in the workplace and 20 per cent studying at UEL. The course is designed so that the skills and knowledge you develop during your studies can be applied directly in your working environment.
Learning on the job is a two-way process. Your workplace experience informs your academic learning, and your academic learning helps you develop more effectively at work. This integrated approach allows you to build knowledge and skills in a practical, meaningful way.
Your on-campus study is supported by specialist labs, which cover subjects including networking, network security and digital forensics, operating systems, programming, databases, and web development.
We use Moodle, our virtual learning environment, to support your learning and make it easy for you to communicate with staff and other students. Moodle provides access to learning materials, course updates and online support throughout your studies.
Who will teach on this course
The teaching team includes qualified academics, practitioners and industry experts as guest speakers. Full details of the academics will be provided in the student handbook and module guides.
Your future career
This course is specifically designed for students who are already in or will shortly begin employment within the IT sector. You will be selected for this apprenticeship degree by your (prospective) employer and will be given, as part of the course, the opportunity to specialise in one of six areas*
- software engineering
- IT consultancy
- business analysis
- data analysis
- cyber security analysis; or
- network engineering.
*Currently, UEL only offers the IT Consultant specialism; additional specialisms can be opened subject to numbers. Please enquire for more information.
On completion of the course, you will continue to develop your specialist knowledge and skills within your employer’s organisation, building on your workplace experience.
The qualification also provides a strong foundation for postgraduate study or research, should you choose to progress academically.
