Welcome to East London Sport
Voted the most ambitious and the most improved university in the UK for sport, we pride ourselves on being able to provide a wide-ranging programme of sporting, health and fitness opportunities for staff, students and the wider community.
In 2010, the University of East London was ranked 124th in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) league – the National Governing Body for University Sport. With only a handful of teams and no medallists, East London Sport was created. Since then we have won the BUCS Most Improved University for Sports, and increased our ranking each year in the BUCS tables. We’ve also helped support many Olympians and Paralympians, 34 teams across a wide range of sports and 500+ active students.
Whether you want to represent UEL as part of our Clubs or High-Performance Programme, access our world-class facilities at SportsDock or engage with the ever-changing events and activities delivered as part of Move East London, we’ve got something for you! We’re passionate about getting active and the benefits that come with it, from maintaining physical and mental well-being and making friendships that will last a lifetime, to enhancing your CV.
Active Campus
Our Active Campus project is here to enhance your university life. We are refreshing existing areas and equipment, expanding our events and activities, and designing new vibrant spaces.

SportsDock
Hear from Richard Avery, Applied Sports and Exercise Scientist, on how our students use our facilities to harness new skills and apply them into their future careers.
Our world-class facilities and electrifying atmosphere at our weekly fixtures are one of the many reasons we’re a leading university for sports in London. They are available to students, staff, the local community, and national and international organisations. The SportsDock facilities have been used by over 35,000 students and residents in the last 10 years, and the fitness centre underwent a £500,000 refurbishment in 2022.
As a testament to the quality of the centre, SportsDock was used as the training Hub for Team USA, during the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
SportsDock features:
- two multi-purpose indoor sports arenas
- 120-piece fitness centre
- fully equipped strength and conditioning room
- dance and aerobics studios
- sports therapy clinic
- conferencing and meeting rooms, lecture theatres and teaching rooms
- outdoor pitches
Studying at the University of East London has been life-changing. With its outstanding support, my opportunities have skyrocketed. Since I started here, I have attended the Junior and Senior Commonwealth games, and three junior world cups."
