UEL’s Wheelchair Basketball club is an inclusive and competitive sports club open to students of all abilities. Whether you are new to the sport or aiming to compete at a high level, the club offers structured training, competitive opportunities and clear progression pathways.
Who the club is for
The club welcomes:
- Beginners with no previous wheelchair basketball experience
- Experienced players looking to compete at university level
- Students interested in high-performance or scholarship sport
- You do not need to be an elite athlete to join — just motivated to train, learn and be part of a supportive team.
Training and facilities
- Training time: Fridays, 5–6pm
- Location: SportsDock, Hall 2 (Docklands campus)
Training sessions focus on skill development, teamwork and game understanding, with support for different experience levels.
Compete for UEL
The Wheelchair Basketball club competes in:
- BUCS (British Universities and Colleges Sport) leagues
- BUCS cup fixtures against other universities
Competitive players have opportunities to represent UEL nationally while balancing academic study.
Performance pathways and scholarships
Wheelchair Basketball is part of UEL’s High-Performance Sport programme. Eligible 1st-team players may access:
- Sports scholarships and bursaries
- Performance support packages
- Exclusive kit
- Access to elite facilities, including Aqua East
The programme also connects with recognised high-performance pathways beyond university sport.
