Course modules

UEL's Project Management MBA gives you a complete business education, with a special focus on strategic leadership and delivering projects successfully. You'll learn how to apply skills like financial analysis and human resource management directly to project situations. You'll also understand how digital marketing and corporate social responsibility affect how projects are delivered. The business simulation module offers hands-on experience, letting you manage projects from start to finish. Your performance will be evaluated based on how well you make decisions using real data.

You can opt to have a placement year, gaining hands-on experience in your chosen field and connecting what you've learned at university to industry.

How you'll learn

You can move from full-time to part-time study and vice versa to accommodate any external factors, such as financial constraints or domestic commitments. Many of our students make use of this flexibility, and this may impact the overall duration of their study period.

Knowledge is developed through guided reading, knowledge-based activities with feedback, and online discussions and activities. Thinking skills are developed through reflective activities with feedback and online discussions, and activities.

Practical skills are developed through IT activities with feedback and research skills-based activities with feedback. Skills for life and work (general skills) are developed through planning activities with feedback and project work.

Students on the MBA (Project Management) with Placement route will be expected to undertake a 30-week work placement. The placement is worth an additional 120 credits. UEL will assist you in finding a placement and will advertise opportunities on the UEL Employment Hub. However, it is ultimately the student's responsibility to source a valid placement. Further details on placement are contained in the placement handbook.

Guided independent study

When not attending timetabled lectures or workshops, you will be expected to continue learning independently through self-study. This will typically involve skills development through online study, reading journal articles and books, working on individual and group projects and preparing coursework assignments and presentations. Your independent learning is supported by a range of excellent facilities, including online resources, and specialist facilities, such as game labs, the library, the full Microsoft Office software, including MS Teams, and Moodle: our Virtual Learning Environment.

Our academic support team provides help in a range of areas - including learning and disability support.

Dedicated personal tutor

When you arrive, we'll introduce you to your personal tutor. This is the member of staff who will provide academic guidance, be a support throughout your time at UEL and who will show you how to make the best use of all the help and resources that we offer.

Workload

Your workload will consist of seminar reading and preparation, assignment preparation, background reading, online activities, group work, portfolio work, diary preparation,  and unsupervised studio work of an approx 228 hours. You will need approx 72 hours of Independent Learning Time.

Class sizes

Supervised learning is a blend of lectures and seminars that are generally comprised of 40-plus students. In seminars, students are divided into groups of five for their group learning, discussion, and hands-on experience on the project management software. 

How you'll be assessed

  • Podcast/Group Video Presentation - 50 per cent (on a real-world mega project)
  • Individual reports to manage the whole real-world project using the project management software
