    Our library services

    Library, Archives and Learning Services is at the heart of the University. We have an excellent range of resources and facilities to help you with your studies, and are committed to offering you a first-class student experience.

    We have new, modern library facilities on both campuses offering inspirational environments for study and research. Libraries contain resources in print and digital formats, a range of study spaces and expert staff to advise and assist with your learning.

    Docklands library

    Docklands Library, located at our Docklands Campus, University Way, offers a first-class learning experience. Overlooking Gallions Point Marina, it provides a stimulating space for study and a comprehensive collection of resources. With helpful and friendly staff, 24/7 opening hours during term-time, and different study spaces to suit all needs, the library is the heart of the university.

    The newly built award-winning Stratford Library provides an inspirational setting for study and research. Situated at our Stratford campus in Water Lane and open 24/7 during term-time, the library has a range of study spaces including group study rooms, quiet study areas and individual silent study carrels. It also offers a high-quality collection of resources and a knowledgeable team of friendly specialist staff who are always happy to help.

    Library, Archives and Learning Services takes the health and wellbeing of our staff and students in the University community seriously.In light of the Government’s advice issued (23 March) introducing three new measures (1. requiring people to stay at home except for very limited purposes, 2. closing non-essential shops and community spaces, 3. stopping all gatherings of more than two people in public), I want to reassure you about the steps we are taking to support you with remote teaching and learning. We will be continually updating the FAQs below at this unprecedented time.

    Libraries are now closed, but library staff are working remotely to support you. You can contact us via email or chat (see below)

    My books are overdue. What should I do?

    We understand this is a worrying time for you and wish to assure you that if you have any books on loan, you can keep hold of them. You don’t need to return them to the library. All books have been automatically renewed until 2 June 2020. 

    If you have received a request for a book you have on loan, you don’t have to return it. There will be no overdue fines for recalled books.

    We will review the new return date as the situation evolves and keep you updated.

    Inter Library Loan (ILL) books

    If you have Inter Library Loan (ILL) books, then please keep them with you until the library desk is open with staff service. Where possible your inter-library loan book will be automatically renewed; where this is not possible you will not incur any overdue charges.
    Can I use the Interlibrary Loan service?

    Yes, our Inter-library loan service continues to fulfill requests in digital format, all other requests are put on hold or electronic alternatives are offered where possible. We will update you if there is any change to this service..

    Can I still access library resources from home?

    Yes. We have a wide range of resources,  available to students remotely, which can be accessed from home via Library search
