About Teacher Training
Why choose us?
UEL is one London’s leading centres for teacher training, offering highly successful courses for the primary, secondary and further education and training sectors. Capitalising on our east London location, we’ve earned an excellent reputation for working in partnership with schools to prepare teachers to work in multi-ethnic and multilingual urban schools.
The School of Education and Communities trains approximately 600 teachers every year. You will be joining a large department with a long and impressive track record and benefit from subject specific coaching and mentoring from experienced and expert practitioners.
Our courses and training
As part of your initial teacher training course you’ll submit two Masters’ level assignments. The 60 Masters’ level credits from these assignments is transferable, and can contribute towards a full MA award. We’re keen that you continue to engage with research after you complete your initial teacher training with us. We offer you the opportunity to gain further M level credits through reflecting on your experiences during your teaching practice, NQT year or as a more established teacher. You can submit a portfolio and have this assessed against the learning outcomes of the MA in Education programme and be awarded a 30 credits towards the Masters’ degree (or an intermediate award of a PG Certificate or PG Diploma). You could then complete your MA in Education or in Special Educational Needs, through UEL.
What we're researching
The Teacher Education Research Group (TERG) offers a forum for informed debate and discussion on all aspects of teacher education, and promotes the work of this dynamic group of teacher educators and researchers. The group aims to produce excellent and high quality research with national and international significance for the development of learning and teaching in teacher education, both pre- and in-service.
