The Athletics Club is one of the most successful clubs in the University. Over the last three years it has also become one of the most successful in the UK, finishing in the top ten universities in the country in 2013 and 2014. The University of East London has claimed multiple championship medals and achieved a record haul in 2014 and 2015.

The Athletics Club compete in the University indoor and outdoor national championships (BUCS), SESSA and LUSA athletics competitions. All full members can go on to compete for the Newham and Essex Beagles during the summer season.

As a leading club at the University, we attract athletes from all over London and the South East. We pride ourselves on our ability to develop talent, and have a fantastic track record when it comes to turning novices into finalists.

Our coaching staff include multiple East London graduates who know what it means to represent your University. Our coaching coordinator & sprints coach, Coral Nourrice has experience coaching both national & international athletes within Newham and Essex Beagles Athletics Club.

Jacob Hood, our endurance coach is a current student and Chairperson of Newham & Essex Beagles, whilst being one of the most exciting young coaches currently involved in the London endurance running scene.

Together, with support from other students and Newham & Essex Beagles coaches, the Athletics Club provides high quality coaching provision, catering for all levels, abilities and athletic events.

Training sessions for the club are on Mondays and Wednesdays from 6pm at Terrance McMillan Stadium.

Members benefit from free access to our Sports Therapy Clinic, which provides free sports massage and injury treatment via the students of the Sports Therapy BSc programme. Membership also covers entry fees, coaching, insurance, travel to BUCS competition and 50% accommodation costs for BUCS competition.

From 2015 the athletics club has two strength and conditioning sessions delivered at our athlete only training facility, Aqua East.

UEL has supported me as a student and an athlete. The flexible elite athlete study policy allows me, as a sports scholar, to compete and train at the highest level whilst ensuring I have the flexibility to earn a degree.
