Compliance Team

The Compliance teams (International and Institutional) manage all compliance issues (internal and external, home and international) by working closely and in coordination with other University areas and relevant external agencies.

Student Immigration and Compliance

Student Immigration and Compliance is divided into two teams – International Student Advice and International Compliance.

Institutional Compliance

Institutional Compliance is divided into three teams – Academic Misconduct, Appeals and Complaints and Disclosure and Barring Service checks.

  • The Academic Misconduct team provides high quality, specialist advice and guidance to students and staff on UEL’s Academic misconduct processes. The team works with schools, meets with students and, when necessary, arranges Academic Misconduct panels.
  • The Appeals team provides advice and guidance to students and staff on UEL’s complaints and appeals procedures. If required, the team works with the Office of the Independent Adjudicator (OIA) to resolve complaints that have been taken to them.

  • The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks team records, processes and provides advice to applicants and students relating to DBS checks, ensuring that UEL meets legal compliance responsibilities in line with government legislation.

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)

If you are applying for a course that involves working with children or vulnerable adults, such as physiotherapy or social work, there is a mandatory requirement for a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) enhanced disclosure certificate.

A DBS check covers whether you have any spent and unspent convictions, cautions, reprimands and final warnings, or whether local police hold any information about you that can reasonably be considered relevant to the group or groups you will be working with.

The University of East London uses an online DBS provider – GBG Online Disclosures to process all DBS applications.

  • Download our helpful PDF for further information on the courses which may require a DBS check and the application process.
  • See the UEL DBS policy and procedures relating to the process and the disclosure of criminal convictions.
