OVERVIEW
Dr Umar Mukhtar Ismail is a Lecturer in the Department of Computer Science and Digital Technologies. He is currently the programme leader for BSc (Hons) Cyber Security Networks and BSc (Hons) Cloud Computing.
His interests include the Artificial Intelligence enabled cyber security audit and assurance, cyber resilience, cyber threat intelligence, security and privacy requirement engineering, security and risk management, cyber-physical systems, threat modelling and attack vectors, and cloud security management. He has in-depth knowledge on leading cyber security frameworks and standards such as ISO27001, NISTs CIS CSC, and NIST CSF.
He is involved in research development projects that aim enhancing the security, privacy and resilience systems and applications in various domains such as critical information infrastructure, cyber physical systems, supply chain, cloud computing, medical and healthcare systems. He has participated in projects funded by the European Union. He is accepting new PhD students is willing to discuss the prospects and novelty of new PhD research.
EXTERNAL ROLES
Umar is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, a member of British Computing Society (BCS), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA), and member of organising committee for various international conferences.
