Dr Shampa Roy-Mukherjee

Dr Shampa Roy-Mukherjee is the Director of Impact & Innovation (DII) and Senior Lecturer in Economics at the Royal Docks School of Business and Law (RDSBL), University of East London. In her role as DII she is responsible for the School’s research portfolio with a focus on creating an inclusive and collaborative research culture that enables high quality research output.

Prior to her role as Director of Impact and Innovation, she was the Head of Subject for the Finance, Economics & Risk subject area at RDSBL and has extensive senior management experience. She has published widely in the areas of income equality, macro and monetary economics, development economics, political economy and applied econometrics.

Shampa is the Co-Director of the STAMP Research Centre (Centre for the Study of States, Markets and People) and is the Co-Director of the Institute of Government and Public Policy at UEL. She set up the Tax & Accountancy Clinic during the COVID-19 lockdown (May 2020) to support local communities and businesses in East London. She is currently working on projects supporting local authorities in East London to forecast the impact of COVID-19 on local businesses and communities to inform public policy going forward.

Shampa is the Co-Chair of the School Athena SWAN committee and the Equality and Diversity Committee. She is involved in projects looking at ways to reduce the awarding gap of BAME students and impact of the increasing 'digital divide' on the future employment of BAME students in East London.

Shampa received a PhD in Economics from the University of Birmingham and worked at the American University in Cairo as an Assistant Professor in Economics before joining the University of East London. Shampa is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
