Mark is  a Senior Lecturer in EAP and Academic Skills, working within ACE (School of Architecture, Computing and Engineering), RDSBL (Royal Docklands School of Business and Law) and the School of Education and Communities. He works work with a broad range of students, from foundation year to post-graduate, studying subjects as diverse as Civil Engineering to Criminology, helping them to communicate with criticality, clarity and confidence.

Mark Unwin

OVERVIEW

Mark Unwin is a senior lecturer in English for Academic Purposes. He is interested in creativity and clarity and effectiveness of communication- academic, professional or expressive- in written, spoken or graphic form. Mark joined UEL in September 2007 and has led and delivered many courses in Academic Writing and Research Skills. 

Prior to this, he lectured in many universities, including SOAS, University of the Arts (London), The University of Barcelona and top international business school, ESADE, Barcelona. He has an interest in sculptural form and Land Art. He has an MA in Landscape Architecture and has worked for ARUP as a junior landscape architect. Mark is also a classically trained actor, and he has acted professionally on stage and on TV (including EastEnders!). As a jobbing actor, Mark has also participated in many corporate assessment and development centres, medical roleplays, run presentation skills workshops and written comedy for the BBC and Off-West End theatre.

As co-author of IELTS Express- a series of books designed to help students succeed in the IELTS exam- Mark has run teacher-training workshops for language teachers in Ireland, Italy, UAE, Oman and Russia.
