Dr Hasan Baig
Senior Lecturer
Department of Engineering & Construction , School Of Architecture, Computing And Engineering
OVERVIEW
With over 12 years of experience in sustainable energy, Hasan is an expert in designing and manufacturing photovoltaic technologies, solar heating and cooling technologies, space-based solar, hydrogen and desalination technologies. His research focuses on decarbonizing energy use within buildings and the transport sector through the development and deployment of innovative sustainable energy technologies. Hasan has experience with the deliverables expected within a public/privately funded project.
At UEL, Hasan is the course leader for MSc in Sustainable Energy Engineering and teaches a number of engineering modules. He is also the module leader for Renewable Energy systems in which he teaches several technologies that can help us achieve net zero. He is also the departmental champion for the Careers and Enterprise within the department of ACE.
Hasan is also the departmental champion for KTP partnerships through which he encourages other academics in the departments to develop KTPs with University support. Hasan's research aligns with the EPSRC's goal to maintain and grow research areas aligned with the UK Industrial Strategy and Net Zero 2050 targets. He has developed several novel solar technologies, including building-integrated photovoltaics, hybrid photovoltaic/thermal systems, concentrating photovoltaic technologies, and thermo-photovoltaic systems.
Hasan has published over 50 high-quality refereed articles in top sustainable energy journals, presented his work at over 20 conference proceedings, and his research has received over 2000 citations. Additionally, he has written a book chapter, co-founded a spinout company, and has been granted two patents.
He has received several recognitions for his work, including winning the impact award at the University of Exeter for his PhD research in 2013 and the Cornwall Sustainability Award in 2018 for his contribution to a sustainable future through innovation.
Over the years, Hasan's work has significantly impacted and has been reported to the public through various news articles, invited talks, TV debates, podcasts, and social media outlets. Recently, his research on hybrid PV-thermal technology was featured on the IMECHE website and highlighted in several other science news outlets.
