Professor Nazrul Islam, Professor of Business & Director of Research Degrees and Associate Director, UEL Centre of FinTech has made a significant impact with his research on "Worker and Workplace Artificial Intelligence (AI) Coexistence." The findings of this study have been cited in the 2024 Economic Report of the President by The White House.
The report highlights the importance of fostering a symbiotic relationship between humans and AI in the workplace, echoing Professor Islam's research viewpoint. It emphasises that effective decision-making and problem-solving in modern workplaces require the integration of AI with workers' technical, human, and conceptual skills.
Professor Islam said:
My research underscores the need for ongoing skill development and training initiatives to ensure that workers are equipped to collaborate effectively with AI technologies. By promoting coexistence between humans and AI, the study advocates for a future where technology enhances human capabilities rather than replacing them.
The report presents an overview of the nation's economic progress and will make the case for the Biden-Harris administration's economic policy priorities. The citing of the paper by the White House indicates it has been read and considered significant by some of the leading economic minds in the Biden administration.
Professor Islam concluded: “I feel proud that my research work is being recognised internationally outside the academia, particularly by the US President’s Economics Report 2024 which is very much an influential document for the Biden-Harris administration as well as for the policymakers worldwide accordingly. It is such a privilege and an honour for me as well as for the UEL community to be recognised and be part of this report.”
Professor Fatima Annan-Diab, Executive Dean, Royal Docks School of Business and Law said: "I am proud to see that Professor Nazrul Islam's ground-breaking research into Worker and Workplace Artificial Intelligence (AI) Coexistence has been acknowledged and cited by The White House.
Professor Islam's recognition not only highlights the exceptional calibre of research conducted within the Royal Docks School of Business and Law but also underscores the significant impact our work is having on a global scale.
This achievement reaffirms our commitment to fostering excellence in research and impact at the University of East London.”
