School of Humanities and Social SciencesFilmmaker, producer and essayist, born in Haifa, Israel. After exercising as a professional photographer in Tel-Aviv, he left Israel and settled in Paris in 1985. He has directed more than ten feature-length documentaries about political issues and produced many others. Sivan is regularly writing and lecturing about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, political filmmaking and issues concerning political crime instrumentalization of genocide and its representation, as well as the political use of memory in Israel, the question of civil disobedience. Sivan is currently directing the film production company Momento! and the film distribution company Scalpel in France. Sivan was guest-teacher in several universities in America and Europe. He regularly participates in conferences, panels and symposiums around the world. His cinema work has been awarded in many international films festivals. Among the prizes he was awarded are the 'Cinéma du Réel Price' at the Centre Pompidou in Paris for his first film "Aqabat Jaber, Passing Through'' about the displaced Palestinian populations; the Rome Prize from the French Ministry of Culture, a year scholarship in Villa Medici, in Rome Italy. the Adolf Grimm Gold price in Germany for his work about the Eichmann case, "The Specialist". Recently Sivan won which is inspired from Hannah Arendt's essay "Eichmann in Jerusalem".
His cinematographic works are shown in prestigious festivals (such as Berlinale, Toronto, IDFA, Cinéma du réel, Sunny Side, SFIFF, San Sebastian, Leipzig, Yamagata, Seul…) and exhibitions worldwide, where he got many important awards. Most of his films were released theatrically and broadcast by TV channels all over the world, like Arte, BBC, WDR, France Télévision, IKON, ZDF, RAI,... Eyal Sivan is member of the editorial board of La Fabrique, publishing house in Paris.
