A three-day festival to celebrate east London, brought to you by UEL, London's leading university for civic engagement

Over three days in June, the University of East London is opening the doors to its historic Stratford campus. We're inviting people from the local community and around London to join us for a variety of free talks, performances and workshops put on by students and local people.

Thursday 9 June:
Opening address: Professor Carl Hart on Civic Engagement: Identity, Power and Transformation

Carl Hart is Professor of Psychology and Psychiatry at Columbia University, in the United States. He has been working closely with UEL students for the last year on a civic engagement project. Known for his research into drug abuse and drug addiction, Professor Hart will talk about the importance of active citizenship, social justice and evidence-based drug policy as well as the role of power and his own personal story of identity and transformation.

Victoria Macdonald (Channel 4 News) will chair a Q&A to follow Professor Hart's talk.
