Undergraduate taster sessions A - Z

Get a feel for life at UEL at one of our subject taster sessions, 11:00 - 12:30

    We’ll be offering a general introduction to the degree, along with the opportunity to ask questions about the course or about study at UEL. We will explore the career paths available for humanities’ students. Taster sessions will include working in the newsroom on story production, working in an advertising studio to design adverts, and a creative writing workshop.
    In our Animation & Illustration taster session you’ll have a chance to ask questions and see finished student films. There will be a practical workshop where you will get to try out fun, rough and ready animation techniques in the animation base room.
    Enter our social science ‘lab’ where together we’ll examine and debate key themes of culture, race and social classes. You’ll explore these concepts and think about how they inform cultures and society, individuals, and politics in a global and multicultural context.
    Join us in a lively debate!
    You will be able to get ahead of the game with UEL’s expert staff offering a general introduction to the Sport area with a talk from a senior lecturer and practical demonstrations of each course. This will be followed by individual programme talks for every course Sport has to offer! You will also have a chance to take a tour of our world class SportsDock facilities home to Team USA during London 2012 Olympics!

    We’ll be offering a general introduction to the degree, along with the opportunity to ask questions about the course or about study at UEL.     You will arrive in the Knowledge Dock 2nd floor where you will be greeted by staff and students from the Fashion & Textiles Subject area; you will receive an overview of the curriculum, followed by a tour of the facilities per course interest. As part of the tour you will have the opportunity to participate in programme focused activities.

    Students will have the opportunity to review past students’ work and to receive advice on portfolio preparation for the interview.

    One of our artists who teach on the course will make a presentation of work by students and by some of the artists teaching on the course. You will be shown the extensive range of workshops and studios, where you will see student work in progress. There will be an opportunity to ask questions about your course.

    In one of our Design Studios we will introduce you to the subject and way we run our course. We’ll have a selection of student work for you to see and you’ll have a chance to ask questions. With current students on hand you will also have the opportunity to ask them about their experience and the type of projects and work they are producing.

    Your programme leader will deliver a presentation about the programme, showing student work on their own websites. You will also take part in a practical illustration project called ‘Spot the Difference’

    Get involved building a model of a bridge using balsa wood and hot glue guns.

    During our Photography taster session you will be shown the shoot studios, darkrooms and print areas by recent graduates or students, and view work by students in one of the studios. Working with one of the tutors you will have the opportunity to investigate the cyanotype process and produce your own print.

    A fun activity exploring the importance of material properties, forms and structures. Working individually or in a team, you will compete in a friendly environment to design, develop and create a supporting structure; that at the end of the exercise will require you to undertake some real product testing!! Are you up for the challenge?!

    Be a Bio scientist for the day- Join in with some exciting experiments in our state of the art labs. What will you discover?
    Our BSc Counselling is one of the few accredited programmes by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). Join us for an interactive question and answer session and discover why the course requires you to undergo personal therapy yourself!
    An interactive workshop where we will explore the holistic approach that is taken in the academic study of the subject area. Childhood is examined from the following key perspectives: health, sociological, political, educational and developmental, and other perspectives are interwoven with this e.g. historical, economics. We also would like to give applicants a feel for the types of assessments they will have to do and where their degree will take them. We aim to inspire and motivate applicants to consider this very interesting, exciting subject area, and that they will be inspired to begin asking questions about childhood and children’s lives.
    In this session we are covering aspects of the programme, the modules you will study and the knowledge, competence and skills in the field of education that you will acquire during this 3 years’ programme that will enable you to continue further studies in the field of education, early years, teaching and learning, amongst others, and develop both life and employment skills.
