'Putting the First into Housing First' conference on homelessness

Can an American idea solve homelessness in the UK?

You are cordially invited to the  UEL student Employability Society 1st annual Conference:
'Putting the First into Housing First'  on 25 October 2016.

Homelessness is associated with sleeping on the streets, but this conceals the range and scale of the problem. The vast majority of homeless people are families or single people who aren't ‘sleeping rough’ but staying with relatives and friends on a temporary basis.

Others live in temporary accommodation, such as bed and breakfast hotels, hostels, night shelters and refuges. For many, this means living in poor quality accommodation that is detrimental to their health and well-being.

A home isn’t just a roof over your head. It’s a place that provides security, privacy, and links to a community and support network. Regardless of Britain being one of the wealthiest nations on the planet, many people continue to live in properties that are run down, overcrowded, or unsafe. Others have lost their homes, often receiving little familial or civil society support.

The aim of this conference is to explore the 'Housing First' model used in the United States and Canada; and discuss the suitability of this model for the UK.
