Technology Enhanced Learning

In 2014, we became the first university in the UK to give free Samsung Galaxy Note tablets to all first-year undergraduate students, benefiting around 4,000 students annually. This represents an annual investment in technology of more than £2 million. The free tablets are part of our commitment to improve the student experience and enhance interactive learning in the classroom.

Award Summary

  • Free Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet (or equivalent) pre-loaded with the core e-textbooks for your modules
  • You’ll receive your tablet during enrolment in September
  • You can make notes and read, search, highlight and link your digital textbooks
  • You can download apps to assist your learning and access Moodle - the University’s virtual learning environment
  • You can keep the tablet and do not need to return it provided that you remain enrolled past the third week of teaching

Eligibility Summary

  • Fee assessed as a Home or EU student
  • Studying on a full-time or part-time undergraduate degree course
  • Studying on campus at UEL or via distance/e-learning
  • Paying tuition fees of £9,250 per year (full-time students) or £2,310 per 30 credit module (part-time students)

How to Apply

There is no application necessary, UEL will issue all eligible students with their tablet during enrolment. E-books are issued annually provided that students continue to meet the eligibility criteria.
