Course summary

Starting Out is a free, short course offered by the University of East London and Birkbeck, University of London. The course is aimed at adults and develops the knowledge and skills to enable you to return to education with confidence.

Starting Out takes place at University Square Stratford (USS) twice a year in November and February. It runs for 5 weeks, each session is 2 hours long.

Entry requirements

The only entry requirement is that you are available to attend all five sessions of this course. 

What you'll learn

You will learn about the wide range of undergraduate degree courses available and how to apply. You will also have sessions on how to fund university study and on the study skills support available to help you become a successful student.

You will take part in taster sessions from a range of degree course subjects and sample being a ‘real’ student.

How you will be assessed 

No formal assessment, but you will practise note-taking and take part in whole class discussion.
