Starting New Beginnings

New Beginnings is UEL’s popular access course, designed to provide the opportunity for mature and non-traditional learners to study at university.

New Beginnings
Our New Beginnings course lasts for 10 weeks with attendance required for 3 hours per week, so you can fit your study around existing commitments.

New Beginnings Accelerated
We also offer an Accelerated version of our New Beginnings course. In this version, you will study and be assessed over five weeks, enabling you to start on a university course in January.

New Beginnings Intensive

This course is delivered in one week from 10am to 5pm, with a final exam on the Friday.

How to apply

If you are interested in studying on this course you will need to:
  1. Come in and visit an advisor (IAG team, USS, 1 Salway Road, E15 1NF)
  2. Complete a pre-entry test
  3. Complete a fee assessment (see information below)
  4. Enrol for the course

Fee assessment

The course fee is £200 however you may be eligible for a bursary which would exempt you from the fees. When you attend for the New Beginnings entry test you will be asked to fill out a Bursary Application form to see whether you’re eligible to have your New Beginnings fees waived.

You will also be asked to complete our Fee Assessment form so that we can assess you as a home, EU or international fee payer. Our assessment of fee status is based upon policy, guidance and training provided by the UK Council for International Student Affairs. This assessment is necessary for all degree course applicants and any information provided will be treated in the strictest confidence.

Please bring your passport with you when you attend for your entry test.
