Course modules
The foundation year for Sports Rehabilitation provides a strong introduction to essential concepts through six modules. You'll develop fundamental knowledge in anatomy and physiology, which forms the foundation of sports rehabilitation practice. You'll study physical health, injury processes and rehabilitation. These are key areas for aspiring sports rehabilitation professionals. Psychological aspects of well-being complement the physical focus of sports rehabilitation therapy, while academic and professional skills prepare you for success. You'll also have the option of a work placement.
The first year of the Sport Rehabilitation programme introduces you to musculoskeletal anatomy and practical assessment skills. These are essential for sport rehabilitation practice. You will develop hands-on skills in soft tissue techniques, joint assessment and injury management approaches. You will learn anatomy, physiology and professional skills which prepare you for the second year of the sport rehabilitation degree.
The Year 2 Sport Rehabilitation programme increases your clinical skills through specialised modules. You'll study trauma management, peripheral assessment techniques, and rehabilitation principles. You'll develop sports therapy skills in biomechanical analysis, strength training, and rehabilitation planning for injured athletes. The course looks at physiological and nutritional assessment within Sport Rehabilitation practice. Training in research methods prepares you to study evidence-based approaches. In year 2 of Sports Therapy, you'll gain clinical reasoning, practical skills, and scientific knowledge. These are essential for professional practice in sports injury assessment and rehabilitation.
Year 3 of the Sport Rehabilitation programme focuses on advanced clinical skills and professional preparation. You'll develop expertise in spinal assessment and manipulation techniques, building on previous knowledge of peripheral rehabilitation. The Sport Rehabilitation degree gives you extensive clinical practice and work placements. You'll get to practice your skills with real people at UEL's Sports Injury clinic, diagnosing and working with injuries. We focus on a person-centred healthcare approach throughout the Sport Rehabilitation training. This will ensure you understand biological, psychological and social factors in patient care.
NOTE: Modules are subject to change. For those studying part time courses the modules may vary.

How you'll learn
You'll be taught by a range of academics, many of whom are practitioners in the area they teach. Some of the assessments focus on practical skills and are presented as 'live or simulated briefs'. This ensures that practice-led teaching is relevant to the industry. Our staff are well placed to take advantage of a range of professional networks and industry contacts. Each module is designed with practical components informed by theoretical underpinnings, with the intention that students develop an ability to have an informed approach when designing their practical assignments.
Guided independent study
Our innovative Technology Enhanced Active Learning (TEAL) approach enhances face-to-face learning by providing students with scheduled on-campus contact hours and additional learning opportunities. Through our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), students can access course materials and resources beyond their scheduled hours. Dedicated time for activities and development, along with a holistic approach to learning, fosters academic, personal, and professional growth. Students benefit from career support through on-campus and virtual Career Zones, personalised support services, and a dedicated online portal, Track My Future (TMF).
