Voices East - A free three-day festival to celebrate east London
A three-day festival to celebrate east London, brought to you by UEL, London's leading university for civic engagement
Over three days in June, the University of East London is opening the doors to its historic Stratford campus. We're inviting people from the local community and around London to join us for a variety of FREE talks, performances and workshops put on by students and local people.
Timetable for Friday, 10 June
Chaired by Victoria Macdonald of Channel 4 News, a panel of experts from the local community will discuss the impact of TB on east London and the ways in which the health services are responding to the resurgence of this once eradicated disease. Panellists include including Sue Dart (Bart’s), Professor Ajit Lalvani (Infectious Diseases, Imperial), Ola Kanu (Redbridge CVS) and Ilhan Siaw (UEL) and Dr Dominik Zenner (Public Health England). Dr Julie Botticello (UEL) will introduce the session and talk about the university civic engagement project which is working to educate local people about TB.
Responding to the refugee crisis: Voices from East London and Beyond
UEL’s Professor Corinne Squire, Dr Cigdem Esin, Dr Aura Lounasmaa and Dr Tim Hall will introduce the session and talk about their civic engagement projects, including one currently underway in the Calais Jungle.
