The Rt Hon John Bercow, Speaker of the House of Commons in conversation with Owen Jones
This event brings together the Speaker of the House of Commons, the Right Honourable John Bercow, and the Guardian Journalist, Owen Jones, to discuss the current state of democracy in the UK and how Parliament can promote it better.
They will consider issues like the democratic deficit in the UK and the lack of interest in Parliamentary democracy, especially among younger age groups, and what could be done to change this.
They will also consider how federalism/regionalism and the likely departure of MPs from Parliament - while the buildings are repaired - might be used as an opportunity to enhance democratic participation in the UK.
The event takes place at 2pm Thursday 13th October at the Main Lecture Theatre, Docklands Campus, University Way, E16 2RD
It will finish at 3.30pm and will be followed by a reception at the Docklands campus Knowledge Dock from 3.30- 4pm.
The event is open to students, lecturers and anyone that works at UEL, as well as year 11 and year 12 politics students from partner schools.
