I'm studying Theatre Directing, and living here has allowed me to work front of house at a West End theatre. Being in that environment and meeting the people I need to meet has directly influenced my ability to network and build connections.

I think one of the most beneficial things UEL has provided in terms of career development is the Mental Wealth programme. They brought in a wide range of industry professionals to talk to us about what day-to-day life is like in the industry and helped provide valuable connections.

UEL has been a really exciting time in my life and has set me up to go beyond university. It's a great place to build a community, and the location is fantastic.

You're not sacrificing anything by coming to UEL. It offers a lot of amazing programmes and opportunities, the location is hard to beat, and the lecturers genuinely care about you. It really is a great option, and you shouldn't be worried about it.

Presenter: Joining a sports club is another great way to find people outside of your course. There are loads of ways to get involved and find a community that feels right for you.

Here are five things I wish somebody had told me before I started at UEL. Genuinely. 

1. Nobody cares how you got here. UCAS, Clearing, mature entry, whatever. By week two, it's just: "What are you studying?", "Where are you from?", "Do you want to grab some food?"

2. Stratford Campus actually surprises you. It is loud, creative, and alive. And once it gets you, it kind of keeps you.

3. Use the wellbeing team early on. Do not wait until something is wrong. Just go and introduce yourself.

4. The campus actually has spots that become yours. The corner in the library, the bench outside. All of these places actually feel like home at the end of the day.

5. If you're scared, that fear is completely normal. Why not just give us a call? The person on the other end is just a person. They want to help.

So, my name is Molly and I study sports coaching and performance. I chose the University [music] of East London because the collaboration with West Ham that was a massive thing. That is something that you don't get at many universities. We get first-hand experience and knowledge from professionals already working within the industry. With the West Ham United [music] Foundation, I am a strength and conditioning coach for the female women's youth teams. The support that I've had from [music] the foundation has genuinely been life-changing. I wouldn't be in the position that I'm in if people didn't give me the opportunity to showcase what I can do.
