Faith and spirituality support
UEL welcomes students of all faiths, beliefs and backgrounds. Our faith and spirituality support is available to help you practise your faith, reflect, or talk to someone about spiritual or personal matters while you study.
You do not need to belong to a faith group to access this support.
What support is available
Faith and spirituality support at UEL includes:
- Chaplaincy support, including confidential and non-judgemental conversations
- Opportunities for prayer, reflection and quiet space
- Informal drop-in sessions and one-to-one meetings
- Support to connect with faith representatives from different traditions
- Information about local faith communities and student faith societies
Chaplaincy support
The UEL Chaplaincy is open to all students, whatever your beliefs.
You can use the Chaplaincy for:
- Pastoral or spiritual support
- Talking through personal concerns in a confidential setting
- Guidance during times of change, uncertainty or difficulty
You can access chaplaincy support whether or not you identify with a particular faith.
Prayer and reflection spaces on campus
Docklands Campus
Available facilities include:
- Faith and Reflection Centre (open to all beliefs and none)
- Muslim prayer rooms with wudu facilities
Location: Lower ground floor, North Building. Access via the Cyprus DLR entrance
Stratford Campus
Available facilities include:
- Multi-faith space in University House (UH.1.06)
- Muslim prayer rooms with wudu facilities
Important access information: University House is closed at weekends. To access prayer rooms at weekends, contact Security on 020 8223 4073 to arrange entry.
How to access faith and spirituality support
You can access support by:
- Attending chaplaincy drop-in sessions on campus
- Arranging a one-to-one meeting with a chaplain
- Using prayer and reflection spaces during opening hours
- Connecting with faith and cultural student societies through the Students’ Union

Faith and spirituality FAQs
Do I need to belong to a faith to use this support?
No. Faith and spirituality support is open to all students, including those who do not follow a particular faith. You are welcome to use the spaces, speak to the chaplain, or attend sessions for reflection, conversation or support.
Can I access prayer and reflection spaces outside normal opening hours?
Some spaces have limited access outside standard building hours. At Stratford Campus, weekend access requires booking through Security on 020 8223 4073. Access arrangements vary by campus, so check details before visiting.
