If you are a parent or carer, you can study for an undergraduate degree at the University of East London. We offer flexible study options, childcare support and clear routes into higher education so you can balance study with family life.
Childcare support
We understand that childcare is a key consideration when you are planning to study.
You can access:
- On-campus childcare at our Docklands Campus nursery for children aged 0–5
- Advice on childcare funding, including how to apply for the Parents’ Learning Allowance and related grants

Flexible ways to study
Many UEL courses are designed to fit around work and caring responsibilities.
Depending on the course, you may be able to study through:
- Part-time study
- Evening or weekend teaching
- Blended learning, combining online and on-campus sessions
- Online learning, where modules are available remotely
- You will also have access to university libraries with extended opening hours during term time.

Returning to education or meeting entry requirements
If you have been out of education for a while or do not currently meet entry requirements, we offer preparation routes to help you progress. These include:
- New Beginnings: – a 12-week, part-time course that prepares you for undergraduate study
- Pre-entry courses and foundation years: available with many degrees to build academic skills before starting year one
These routes are designed to support confidence, study skills and subject knowledge.

What childcare support is available?
UEL has an on-campus nursery at Docklands (Children’s Garden Nursery and Pre-School) for children aged 0–5, run by the London Early Years Foundation (LEYF).
What if I don’t have the right qualifications or haven’t studied for a while?
You can start with New Beginnings, a 12-week part-time course for mature and non-traditional learners, or choose a foundation year attached to many degrees.
Are there flexible ways to study?
Yes. Many of UEL's degrees offer flexible options such as part-time study and other formats that help you fit learning around your life. Availability depends on the course, so check your course page for details.
