Thank you for booking your online interview for the BSc (Hons) Occupational Therapy course at the University of East London. Below is everything you need to know to prepare, take part and complete the interview process successfully.
FAQs
How will the interview take place?
- Your interview will be conducted online using Microsoft Teams.
- Please download the Microsoft Teams app beforehand.
- You will be sent a Teams link approximately two working days before your interview date - this will arrive by email.
- Accept the invitation in Teams to confirm your attendance.
- If you cannot attend, you can decline and re-book through the Applicant Portal, but due to high demand for this course, you should try to keep your original date, as alternate dates are not guaranteed.
- On the interview day, the email will contain a link labelled “Click here to join” - join this link ten minutes before your scheduled time.
- The interview will last about 30 minutes.
What do I need to prepare?
Before the interview, please read the NHS constitution and familiarise yourself with its principles and values, as questions may relate to them.
What do you need for the interview?
To take part in your online interview, you must have:
- A device with a working camera and microphone - if your main device lacks these, you can use a smartphone or tablet.
- A valid form of photo ID (for example, your passport or driving licence). You will need to show this on the day - you cannot attend without it.
- You must have completed and submitted the Student Suitability Declaration Form in advance; details of this were sent in a separate email.
What will happen on the day?
On the day of your interview:
- Join via the Teams link ten minutes early so you can test your camera and microphone. If you experience any issues, you’ll have time to try a different device.
- Have your photo ID ready - without this, you cannot remain in the interview.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to enter the waiting lobby; an interviewer will admit you into the virtual interview room.
- You might be asked whether you want to join via the Teams app or a web browser - try both options if needed.
- You will be interviewed by a member of the teaching team; a service user may also be on the panel.
- You will be asked a series of questions and will have a chance to ask questions about the course and studying at UEL.
- Interview questions will focus on your understanding of occupational therapy, why you want to pursue this career, and the skills and attributes you have that make you suited to working in health professions.
Post interview task
After your interview, you will be asked to:
- Complete a short reflection (no more than 250 words) and submit it by email to your interviewer.
- You will be given the interviewer’s email address at the end of your interview.
- This reflection must be submitted within 24 hours of the interview.
You might wish to reflect on:
- How you felt the interview went
- How you think you were perceived
- Any points you might add or change in future interviews
English and Mathematics
- GCSE English and Mathematics at Grade 4/C or a recognised UK Level 2 equivalent are mandatory for entry onto this course.
- If you are offered a place, you will need to provide evidence of these qualifications before enrolling.
- If you do not hold these qualifications yet, you should plan to complete them either online or at a local college/further education provider so that you have your official results in time to start the course.
Commonly accepted qualifications include:
- Level 2 Functional Skills in English and Maths
- Level 2 Adult Literacy and Numeracy
- Level 2 Key Skills in Communication and Application of Number
- WAEC in English and Mathematics (Grade C6 or above)
