BA (Hons) Acting for Stage and Screen Audition Guidance
BA (Hons) Acting for Stage and Screen Audition Guidance
Thank you for your application to the University of East London. As part of the admissions requirements, you are required to send a self-tape or attend an audition.
About the audition
The audition process for the BA (Hons) Acting Stage and Screen is a chance for you to meet the tutors who run the course as well providing you with an opportunity to look at the spaces, ask questions and get a feel of what we offer here at UEL.
The audition will last approximately 2-3 hours and will begin with a group workshop run by one of our lecturers followed by a chance for you to perform your prepared monologue.
The monologue needs to last no longer than 2 minutes and must come from a published play. Please choose a character appropriate to your casting and a piece you enjoy performing. The monologue will be performed without a script, so make sure you are confident with the text beforehand.
Please wear clothes and footwear that you can move freely in, as the workshop will be quite physical. We will explore acting techniques for stage and screen within ensemble exercises. The workshop gives us an opportunity to see you working both independently and as part of a team. Please bring water to drink, and a notebook and pen in case you want to take any notes. It would be a good idea to think about and write down any questions that you’d like to ask the lecturers and/or the current students and bring those too.
What are we looking for?
We are looking for applicants who are ready to enter Actor Training. We are looking for applicants who care and are passionate about performance and acting. Applicants who have an open mind and are curious to learn, study, value and explore all forms and styles of acting technique. Applicants who can follow instructions and respond to advice and feedback offered. A professional and mature approach to both practical and theoretical perspectives on an actor's process and ready to grow through the programme.
What happens after the audition
We will notify you of the outcome of your interview through your UCAS Track or we will send you an email with our decision. If you receive a place, you will be required to accept/decline your place as per UCAS deadlines/the deadline in your email. You are also welcome to attend our offer holder or open days to gain more understanding of the course.
Can I request an alternative date?
There is a high demand for the limited number of places on our course, and we have more applicants than we do places available. Therefore, if you request an alternative date, unfortunately, there is no guarantee that we will be able to offer you one, as the subsequent dates may already be fully booked.
We do understand that it is not always possible for applicants to attend, so we will do our best to accommodate you if you do need another date but cannot guarantee this. To avoid disappointment, please do your absolute best to attend the date that you have been offered.
