We're one of the leading modern universities for research. Our focus on 'learning by doing' helps our students progress to a rewarding career.

We've invested £170 million to create a world-class learning environment, with 24/7 libraries, professional-standard laboratories and teaching equipment, and a SportsDock centre that's used by top international athletes.

UEL is one of the only universities in London to offer on-campus accommodation. We have 24/7 security and our Residential Services team is always here to help.

We have dedicated student support hubs and specialised teams to ensure your child will receive the support they need while studying at UEL.

UEL ranks at the top of the student satisfaction league table for modern universities [NSS 2018]. But don’t just take our word for it. Read our case studies to hear what some of our students and their parents have to say.

Here at the University of East London we provide our students with more than just an academic degree. By giving students the chance to work on real-life projects, they’ll gain the experience and self-confidence that employers are looking for.

Many of our teaching staff are world-leaders in their field. Students could be taught by Turner-Prize winning sculptor, an Olympic gold medallist, a former business leader or an advisor to national governments.

We're one of the leading modern universities for research. The quality and impact of our research received impressive ratings in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework - the six-yearly national review of higher education research carried out by the Higher Education Council for Funding in England.

UEL students are satisfied with our teaching: we are the second-ranked modern university in London in the national Student Experience Survey league table. The 2017 survey, carried out by the Times Higher Education Supplement, asked students across the UK to rate all aspects of their university experience – including academic teaching, facilities, extra-curricular activities, student welfare and accommodation.

Our students delivered a vote of confidence UEL by rating us top among modern universities in London for the quality of staff and lectures, teaching in small groups, fairness of workload, libraries, accommodation, sports facilities, university facilities overall and in the category 'I would recommend my university to a friend'.

UEL was also ranked second among the capital’s modern universities for overall academic experience, student welfare, security, well-structured courses and dealing with personal requirements.

At UEL, we think creatively about how our students learn

      Learning by doing

Our focus on 'learning by doing' helps students to progress to a rewarding career. They have the opportunity to work as part of team on real-life projects in east London and overseas. They also have access to workplace experience through the many placements and internships that we help to organise through our extensive network of industry connections. Find out more on the careers page.

      Smaller class sizes

We don't believe education should be about cramming hundreds of students into a vast lecture theatre. We focus on smaller class sizes and more individual ways of teaching.

      Interactive learning

At UEL it's about interactive rather than passive learning – acquiring knowledge through debate, exploration, research, critical thinking and practical work.

We're committed to providing our students with the best possible facilities in which to live and learn, and we’ve invested heavily in our campuses over the past few years.

Both of our campuses boast state-of-the art teaching facilities, including world-class laboratories, superbly equipped computer suites, high-tech libraries open 24/7 during term time, cutting-edge performance studios and professional-standard workshops.

In 2012, our £21 million SportsDock facility opened at our Docklands campus and achieved global fame as the training base for Team USA in the run-up to the London Olympics and Paralympics. It includes indoor and outdoor pitches and courts, dance and aerobic studios, a martial arts studio and a huge gymnasium.

In 2013, we opened our £33 million University Square Stratford building, as well as a new £14 million library at our Stratford campus.

We also have a multimedia production centre, a clinical education centre and our renowned Knowledge Dock business centre that offers help to start-up companies.
