Meet Ayat Ahmed
Ayat Ahmed takes us through her experience as a bioscience student at UEL and how her the laboratory skills she has gained gives her the confidence to become a clinical research scientist one day.

State-of-the-art bioscience facilities
We have eight teaching laboratories at our London-based Stratford campus, including a multi-purpose STEM lab with a capacity for 120 students, and six dedicated research laboratories, including a mammalian tissue culture lab, a Pharmacology Lab, Analytical Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Science lab, and a Medical Physiology lab.
Accreditations from prestigious professional bodies
We have several courses accredited by the following professional bodies: the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS), the Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences (APS) and the Royal Society of Chemistry. This means that the content and calibre of our syllabus are consistently matched to the expectations of the industry and the bodies that regulate it.

All our BSc degrees involve extension practical teaching, as well as the option of a placement year. With a wide range of partnerships across the industry, such as NHS Trust, Autolos, UCB, BioSear Lab, GSK and many more, you'll be able to gain invaluable experience before you graduate, making you career-ready straight away. We regularly organise industrial visits for both BSc and MSc students.

UEL provided me with opportunities to develop practical skills to prepare me for the role of biomedical scientist; also extending my knowledge through professional mentoring and work experience, especially during the final placement. The UEL ‘Employability and Enterprise Team’ actively supported me take the first steps in my career.

Analytical Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Science Lab
This lab is well equipped with modern instruments that are used in pharmaceutical and biotechnological companies, environmental agencies and related sectors

Pharmacology Lab
In the Pharmacology laboratory students use pharmaceutical industry standard organ bath set ups to learn on the effect of drugs on biological molecules and on drug-to-drug interactions.

We were awarded a £1.2 million grant from the Higher Education Funding Council for England to build a new high-tech super-lab.

Tissue Culture Lab
The tissue culture lab is equipped with a range of high-tech equipment including tissue culture hoods, incubators, upright, inverted and LCD screen attached microscopes and a refrigerated centrifuge.

Our medical physiology lab is equipped with state-of-the-art sports training equipment and metabolic analysers.
