Study support and adjustments
You can access a wide range of resources and services throughout your time at UEL. These are grouped below by service. Follow the links to find out more about each one.
Disability and dyslexia support
If you have a diagnosed disability, long-term health condition, or SpLD (Dyslexia), you can also book an appointment with a Disability and Dyslexia adviser to arrange their Internal Support . Appointments are bookable by calling 0208 223 4444 or emailing ddac@uel.ac.uk. We are currently offering appointments via telephone or Microsoft Teams.
Library services
The Library, Archive and Learning Services team provides a range of accessible resources to support your studies, both on campus and online.
Assistive technology
You can access the following tools on library computers:
- Read and Write Gold
- Inspiration
- Sensus Access (this is accessible on and off campus using your UEL email address to log in)
- Support for using KoreText
- Subject-specific Librarian (this is currently being offered via Microsoft Teams).
- Support with accessing and finding resources. (This is currently being offered via Microsoft Teams).

Academic tutoring
The Academic Tutoring team can help you build your skills and approach your assignments with confidence.
They support you to develop as an independent learner throughout your time at UEL. They offer:
- My Feedback service - feedback on structure, referencing, spelling and grammar.
- Academic writing support via drop-ins
- Maths and English tutoring
- Access to information and resources via Moodle.
Wellbeing
The Wellbeing team offers support to help you manage your mental health and overall wellbeing during your studies.
What they offer:
- A drop-in service with a wellbeing adviser
- Counselling
- Access to Spectrum

Spectrum app
UEL students also have free access to the Spectrum (Sharepoint link) health and wellbeing app.
What it offers:
- Tools to support your mental health and wellbeing
- Features to help you stay engaged and build healthy habits
- Access to wellbeing resources anytime
SMART (Student Money, Advice and Rights)
SMART provides advice and support on money, funding, and student rights for both home and international students, including those with dependants and care leavers.
They offer:
- A drop-in service
- Advice on government funding (UK and International)
- Advice on UEL scholarships and bursaries
- Advice and guidance for budgeting and money management
- Support, information, advice and guidance for care-leavers

Enabling and assistive technologies
UEL offers a range of free technology to support your studies. You can access tools, apps, and software designed to help you work more effectively and independently.
Edu-Tech drop-in
EduTech drop-in sessions are available to all students. These are short, one-to-one training sessions with an expert to help you get the most from technology during your studies.
What you can get help with:
- General technology advice, including assistive/enabling technology.
- Office 365 support
- Advice on in-built assistive technologies such as those found in Microsoft applications.
- How to use educational software such as Mind Mapping, Text-to-Speech, Voice Recognition, Note Taking & others.
- Referencing sites and the built-in application.
- Researching online

Disabled Students Allowance
Disabled Students' Allowance (DSA) contributes towards the additional costs, which you may incur during your course, due to your disability or Specific Learning Difference.
