Applying for your visa
If you're an international student (a non-UK or Irish national). and you do not have a UK visa that allows you to study, you will need to apply for and obtain a student visa to study at UEL.
If you are studying a course for six months or less as part of a study abroad or exchange programme, you will receive separate guidance on the visa you are required to apply for.
Have an offer to study?
Things to check:
- You have an academic offer for your chosen course
- You have met the academic conditions of your offer
Receive a CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance to Study)
You need a CAS to apply for your Student visa. You’ll have to pass the below by the required deadlines:
- Pay the tuition fee deposit as per your offer letter
- Pass all relevant pre-CAS checks
- Have an unconditional offer
- CAS is then emailed to you
Apply for your Student visa
Complete the following:
- Submit your online visa application as soon as you can
- Submit all required application documents depending on your circumstances
- Attend a biometric appointment (if relevant)
- Update your CAS Shield portal with the status of your visa application
Travel to the UK and enrol
After your visa is granted:
- Book your flights to the UK. Try to arrive ahead of International Orientation
- Pay your enrolment deposit
- Travel to the UK as soon as you receive your visa and before the last date of enrolment
- Enrol and complete the Right to Study check
- Adhere to your visa responsibilities
Find your new home
As part of your enrolment, you will be required to provide a term-time address. Therefore, it’s really important that you consider where you’ll live before arriving.

Complete your online enrolment
All new students must complete online enrolment. Enrolment involves confirmation of your details, paying your tuition fees, and agreeing to the terms and conditions for your course of study as well as confirming that you agree to the relevant visa declaration depending on your immigration status. These declarations explain in further detail UEL’s expectations from you to remain compliant with your visa conditions throughout your study period. Please read the visa declarations.
As an international student, you will need to pass your Right to Study check and make a tuition fee payment or provide proof of funding or sponsorship to complete online enrolment.
