Exchange Programme
Our Exchange Programme allows you to spend part of your degree abroad studying at one of UEL's specially selected partner institutions across the globe.
You can spend a semester or a year at one of our many partner institutions. The process to apply for study exchange takes place centrally with the Global Experiences office and takes place the year prior to your exchange.
There are two exchange pathways you could choose from on the programme:
Exchange Term | Exchange Year |

** Please note: Students at level 6 face some restrictions - please check with your course leader if this is a suitable route for you.
Where can you go?
UEL has international exchange agreements with a range of prestigious universities worldwide, in countries such as the USA, China, Canada, France, South Korea and Australia, and many more. We are dedicated to expanding our global network and developing high-quality, long-lasting partnerships with the aim to foster excellence and create opportunities for our students.
Please note that not all of our partner institutions offer exchange opportunities every term or every academic year. It is important to check for updated information for the current academic year when researching your preferred institutions, as the courses offered change year-to-year and we cannot guarantee that exchanges from past years will be offered in the future. You can find the updated list of available exchange partners for the current academic year for your course by logging in using your UEL student account and accessing our intranet webpage (requires login).
Other mobilities
Short Mobilities
UEL recognises that for some of our students, spending a semester or full academic year abroad on exchange is not possible due to personal commitments or the academic structure of their degree programmes. We want all of our students to be able to have access to our global opportunities and we believe all deserve to experience international exposure while studying at UEL. Throughout the summer period (and occasionally during winter), UEL aims to offer short-term placements (usually 4-6 weeks long) to provide shorter, more affordable participation in international projects.
These projects will vary in their nature, with some being open to students from all subject areas and others being more course-specific. You can find information on upcoming placements on our intranet page, which is actively updated when new opportunities become available, so watch this space! You can also join a summer school during the summer period to gain a global perspective. These can be with our partner institutions or self-sought. Students participating in summer schools of a duration longer than 4 weeks are eligible to apply for the Turing Scheme funding to assist with the costs.
Traineeships Abroad
Why not stand out from the crowd and participate in an internship opportunity abroad? The Global Experiences team at UEL are here to support you every step of the way and can provide assistance with funding your traineeship abroad through the use of the Turing Scheme funding.
- Step1. Secure your placement. Students and recently graduated alumni who wish to participate in traineeships or work placements abroad are encouraged to seek their own opportunities. Our UEL Career Zone has useful resources for doing so such as the Going Global Platform, an online database that helps new and experienced job seekers find opportunities both at home and abroad. Global Experiences occasionally offers various opportunities through our academic partner institutions that are subject to availability and vary by year, but if you’re interested in sector-related, industry-specific traineeships, you can contact the CareerZone or GoinGlobal portals to support you in finding an independent placement.
- Step 2. Contact the Global Experiences team. Once you have found your perfect placement and would like to apply for funding, you can contact the Global Experiences team at educationabroad@uel.ac.uk who will guide you through the process. You can complete the application form to be considered to receive Turing Scheme funding for your international placement. After you have provided all the necessary information, the Global Experiences team will review your eligibility and reach out again to provide the next steps.
