Giving the gift of a future

We are honoured to propose the creation of the Dr. Judi Love Award (JLA) worth £3,000. This transformative initiative will increase access to higher education and careers in the arts and creative industries, social work and counselling, and law for students facing significant disadvantage and hardship.

By reducing financial barriers, the award will empower students from disadvantaged backgrounds to fully engage in their studies, pursue internships and collaborate with industry leaders. It will help recipients achieve academic success, develop career-relevant skills and contribute to a more equitable society, reflecting our shared commitment to social mobility, diversity and inclusion. Associating Judi's name with the award will raise its profile, encourage applications from those who need support most and provide recipients with a prestigious credential as they begin their careers.

Comedian Judi Love honorary doctorate of arts

Judi Love is a proud UEL alumna who credits the University with helping to transform her life and providing invaluable support during her studies. In 2025, UEL awarded Judi an Honorary Doctorate of Arts in recognition of her outstanding contribution to comedy, broadcasting and advocacy for underrepresented voices, as well as her ongoing connection to the University community.

Award recipients will have opportunities to meet Judi throughout their studies and benefit from mentoring and career guidance. Where possible, she will also introduce students to industry professionals and networks that can support their future careers.

Talent is everywhere, but opportunity is not. With your support, we can remove barriers, unlock potential and empower the next generation of leaders and changemakers.

Eligibility summary

  • Starting a course in September 2026  
  • Studying full-time on campus  
  • Fee assessed by UEL’s Admissions team as a Home fee paying status
  • Students from the following underrepresented groups. You must meet at least one of the below criteria below and are able to prove the same with supporting documents:
    • From low-income households facing financial difficulties; and/or
    • A single parent and/or primary caregiver.

 

How do I apply?

Before starting your application, you must make an application to start an eligible course at UEL. Once you have applied, you will be given a unique Student ID number, which you will need in order to submit a scholarship application.  

If you are already enrolled on a programme at UEL, you will not be eligible to apply for a scholarship towards that same programme.

September entry 2026

The Judi Love Award is now open! The final deadline to submit your application is Sunday 9 August 23:55pm. Late applications will not be accepted, therefore please make sure you submit your application prior to the deadline.

Decision outcomes will be communicated to applicants within 3 weeks of the closing date via the same email you registered with.
