Postgraduate Course Discount for UEL Partner Graduates

Recent graduates from UEL partners can save on postgraduate tuition. Directly continuing graduates (no gap year) are eligible for:

  • 15% discount
  • 20% discount for Upper Second-Class Honours (2:1) graduates
  • 25% discount for First-Class Honours (1:1) graduates
  • Graduates returning after some time can receive a 10% discount.

Who qualifies for the Discount?

To qualify, you need to have attained a prior degree from a UEL partner. This could be an undergraduate, postgraduate, professional doctorate, or postgraduate research degree.
The discount does not extend to:

  • Distance learning programmes
  • Post-compulsory education and training (PCET) courses
  • Short courses or those valued at fewer than 120 credits.

Terms and Conditions

What is the University of East London (UEL) Alumni Discount?

1. It is a loyalty scheme offered by UEL to its graduate students to pursue further study whilst saving on tuition fees. This scheme is open to UK and international students studying full or part-time postgraduate courses (inclusive of PGCE and Architecture RIBA II programmes).
 

Criteria

2. Students who meet the criteria below will be considered under the Alumni Discount: 

  • Any UEL undergraduate and postgraduate students who fully complete their intended degree programme will automatically be eligible for a 10% discount off a postgraduate course at UEL (students that leave their programme with an intermediary award will not qualify)
  • Any UEL student who progresses directly onto a postgraduate taught or research course with no gap year between their studies will automatically be eligible to receive a 15% discount on tuition fees.
  • Study Abroad students undertaking a postgraduate taught master's at the University are eligible for a 10% discount on tuition fees.
     

Undergraduate students progressing directly to Postgraduate study

  • For direct progression graduates achieving a First-Class Honours (1st), you may receive a 25% discount. This cannot be combined with the 10% discount. (Students who leave their course with an intermediary award will not qualify). For direct progression graduates achieving an Upper Second Class Honours (2:1), you may receive a 20% discount.

3. Excludes:

  • A post-compulsory education and training (PCET) programme
  • PG Cert programmes or Top-Up courses
  • Online or distance learning
  • Short courses
  • Courses worth less than 120 credits
  • If you progress on to a full degree programme after the completion of a short course or courses worth less than 120 credits, you will not qualify for the alumni discount
  • PG Diploma students returning to top up to a full master’s (60 credits) are not entitled to an alumni discount for the Master's course
  • Students studying via a Partner University

Please note: PGCE students will be eligible to receive the Alumni Discount Scheme if they progress on to an MA or MSc programme.
 

Application process

4. There is no application necessary. The discount will be applied to your student record automatically.
 

Fee waiver details

5. Undergraduate students and alumni will receive eligible discounts on their postgraduate tuition fees when they enrol on one of our postgraduate courses starting September 2023 or January 2024.

6. The fee waiver is only valid for the normal duration of the course, it will not be renewed or extended beyond this term to cover repeat modules.
 

General terms and conditions

7. If an awarded student decides to change the programme, the student will be entitled to keep the discount provided that the new course and mode of study meet the eligibility criteria. All changes must be approved by the Director of Student Recruitment and Marketing.

8. If an awarded student decides to withdraw, the discount will terminate at the date of withdrawal. The discount may be reversed.

9. Once a period of study has commenced, should a discount holder suspend their studies through the proper channels, their discount is similarly suspended and will recommence on the resumption of studies. This can be held for a maximum of one year, starting from the date of their suspension.

10. If the student’s status changes during their study, as a result of information not being provided at the point of application, and the student becomes ineligible, the University reserves the right to revoke the discount and claim back any fee waiver incorrectly made to the student.

11. The Alumni discount may not be held in conjunction with any other scholarships. If awarded, you will only be entitled to one scholarship, one bursary or an alumni discount, whichever is the highest to be deducted from your tuition fees due. Please see our Fees Policy.

12. If a student breaks the University regulations and withdraws from study, the discount will be immediately terminated, and no further support will be available.

13. A complaint is normally a specific concern related to a procedural error, irregularity, or maladministration in admissions procedures or policies. If you are dissatisfied with any aspect of the administration of your discounts, please contact us in the first instance so that an informal resolution can be sought. This may be done in writing by emailing studentfunding@uel.ac.uk.

How can I submit my application?

No formal application process is required.

Please be aware: The Alumni discount cannot be combined with any other scholarships. If granted, you will only receive either one scholarship, one bursary, or one alumni discount, whichever provides the highest deduction from your tuition fees.

Partnership Scholarship FAQs

What counts as a “UEL partner” and how do I check my eligibility?

Partners are institutions with an active formal agreement with UEL. If you’re unsure, share your awarding body, programme name, and graduation year with Admissions/Applicant Engagement so they can confirm.

How will the discount appear on my fees and payment plan?

It’s normally applied as a tuition reduction on your student account, and instalments are recalculated from the discounted balance. If it’s not visible on your first invoice, contact the team before your payment deadline.

What happens if I’ve been offered another UEL scholarship too?

Tell us about all offers so we can apply the single most beneficial award to your tuition and avoid delays or re-billing. If you change intake or programme, ask for the discount to be re-checked.

What proof will I need to show I’m a partner graduate?

Keep a digital copy of your award certificate (or official transcript) and, if applicable, a confirmation letter from your college/university stating the award was delivered under a UEL partnership.
