Funding for part time students
Funding for part time students
Undergraduate part-time students
If you are a part-time student, you may be eligible for a maintenance loan from Student Finance England to help with living expenses like food, travel, and accommodation. To qualify, you must be studying at a rate of at least 25 per cent of a full-time course each academic year.
Postgraduate part-time students
Fees for part-time postgraduate courses are based on the modules you complete and vary by programme.
You may be able to get a government postgraduate loan of up to £12,858 to help cover both your study and living costs. This loan is paid out throughout your course.
In addition, the university offers a range of scholarships and discounts that you may be able to apply for. Visit our postgraduate scholarship and bursaries page for more information.

Part time funding FAQs
Can international students studying part-time apply for UK student loans?
No. Government student loans are generally only available to UK and certain EU students. International students will need to explore scholarships, sponsorships, or private funding options.
If I switch from full-time to part-time study, what happens to my student loan?
Your loan eligibility may change if you alter your study mode. You should inform Student Finance immediately, as your loan payments and repayment schedule could be adjusted.
How does part-time study affect loan repayments after graduation?
Loan repayment terms are the same for full-time and part-time students. Repayments begin once your income is above the repayment threshold, regardless of your study mode.
Can I combine part-time study with employer sponsorship?
Yes. Many employers are open to sponsoring staff for part-time study, especially if the course is relevant to your role. You can also combine employer support with government loans, provided you meet the eligibility criteria
Do part-time students receive the same university services as full-time students?
Absolutely. Part-time students have full access to libraries, online learning resources, academic support, and student services.
