Our commitment to care leavers at UEL
A care leaver is an adult who has spent time in care.
This may include:
- Living with a foster family
- Staying in a children’s home
- Living in supported housing
- Other arrangements agreed with a social worker
We understand that care leavers may face additional barriers when:
- Applying to university
- Studying
- Moving into employment
We provide support across your whole university journey. This includes outreach, support during your studies, and opportunities beyond graduation.
Care Leaver Covenant overview
We have signed the Care Leaver Covenant to strengthen our support for care-experienced students.
The Care Leaver Covenant is a national commitment from organisations across the public, private and voluntary sectors. It supports care leavers aged 16 to 25 to live independently.
By signing the Covenant, we offer additional support in addition to what local authorities provide. This includes tailored support and opportunities to help you succeed during and after your studies.
