UEL Sport Hall of Fame
Launching in 2026, the University of East London Sport Hall of Fame celebrates the extraordinary achievements of our former athletes, coaches, and sport scholars who have represented UEL with distinction. The Hall of Fame honours individuals who excelled before, during, or after their time at UEL, whether through exceptional sporting success or outstanding impact in their chosen career beyond sport.
The Hall of Fame is a lasting tribute to the talent, ambition, and resilience of our sporting community, recognising those who continue to inspire the next generation of UEL students.
What Is the UEL Sport Hall of Fame?
The UEL Sport Hall of Fame is designed to spotlight the best and brightest alumni of UEL who have represented UEL in BUCS competition. Inductees may include:
- Elite athletes who competed on the world stage
- Coaches and support staff who guided national or international teams to excellence
- Sporting professionals who broke barriers or set new standards
- Former UEL athletes who achieved excellence beyond sport, becoming leaders and innovators in their fields
From Olympians and Paralympians to world champions and influential pioneers, the Hall of Fame recognises those who embody the spirit of UEL and left their legacy.
Who Can Be Nominated?
To be eligible for induction into the Hall of Fame, nominees must:
- Be a former UEL student who participated for UEL in BUCS or associated university sports competition.
- Have achieved exceptional success in sport or made a significant impact in their post-sport career.
- Demonstrate values that reflect the UEL ethos: Passion, Inclusion & Courage
Examples of Eligible Achievement
Sporting Excellence
- Competing at the Olympic or Paralympic Games
- Winning or medalling at World Championships, European Championships, or other major international tournaments
- Extensive career professionally at the highest level in their sport
- Coaching, supporting, or leading teams to major national or international success
Excellence Beyond Sport
- Leading major organisations or influential initiatives
- Exceptional contributions to their community, industry, or field of work
- Recognised national or international awards for professional achievement
How to Nominate Someone
Nominations are open , ahead of the official launch of the Hall of Fame in 2026.
Anyone can submit a nomination - including alumni, staff, coaches, partners, and members of the public with knowledge of the nominee’s achievements.
To nominate someone, you will need:
- The nominee’s name and UEL programme of study
- Details of their involvement in UEL’s scholarship programme
- A clear summary of their sporting or professional achievements
- Any supporting documents, links, or evidence (e.g., competition results, awards, articles, governing body confirmations)
- Your contact information

Selection Process
All nominations will be reviewed by the UEL Sport Hall of Fame Selection Committee, which includes representatives from East London Sport, alumni leadership, and experts connected to UEL from the sporting community.
Inductees will be announced at the Annual East London Sports awards, held in May 2026.
