Volleyball at UEL
Train and compete in a high-performance volleyball programme led by international-level coaches Ian Legrand and Jefferson Williams. They have coached domestic and international squads, with many players progressing into professional careers.
What you’ll get as a volleyball scholar
Our volleyball scholarship supports you on and off the court, with a clear pathway to elite competition.
- Training 5–7 times a week, including technical sessions and match play.
- Strength and conditioning (S&C) support and access to performance facilities.
- Medical and recovery support to keep you fit through the season.
- Super League pathway through our partnership with Malory Eagles (2023 Men’s National Cup winners).
- Beach volleyball option after the indoor season, including preparation for the BUCS Beach Championship in June.
Performance pathway and achievements
- Current scholars have represented the England Development Squad.
- Alumni have represented Bulgaria (indoor) and Romania (indoor and beach) at national level.

Who can apply for a volleyball scholarship?
Volleyball scholarships are for players with strong club, regional, or national-pathway experience who want to compete at BUCS and performance level while studying at UEL.
What training and competition will I take part in?
Scholars train 5–7 times per week and compete in BUCS leagues. You can also access a Super League pathway through our partnership with Malory Eagles, and choose to compete in the BUCS Beach Championship after the indoor season.
What support does the scholarship include?
You’ll get high-level coaching plus performance support on and off court, including access to strength and conditioning facilities and medical support.
How do I apply and what do I need to send?
Apply online and include a short playing CV and video highlights. If shortlisted, you’ll be invited to a trial or assessment with the coaching team.
Can international students apply?
Yes. We welcome applications from UK and international players, and our squads include a mix of domestic and international athletes.
