Basketball is one of East London Sport’s High-Performance Programmes. A range of scholarships is available for 1st team players, which includes bursaries, a diverse support package, exclusive kit and access to our private performance facility Aqua East.
East London Basketball Club has gone from strength to strength over the years, with now four men’s teams and two women’s teams competing in the British Universities and Colleges Sport (BUCS) leagues and cups every Wednesday. Having become one of East London’s focus sports, more and more students are choosing to study and play basketball with us.
The basketball programme at East London has been created to ensure success on and off the court through great team spirit, work ethic and developing talent alongside a fantastic group of coaches.

Basketball scholarships are for UEL 1st team players in the High-Performance Programme. Selection is competitive and linked to playing at a high level and representing UEL in competitions.

How do I apply for a basketball scholarship?
You need to:
- Apply to UEL and secure an offer for an eligible course.
- Join or trial for the basketball programme and be selected for the 1st team.
- Apply for the sports scholarship through the UEL sport scholarships route.
Do I need to attend a trial?
Yes. To be considered for a basketball scholarship, you must be assessed through the basketball performance pathway, and scholarships are tied to 1st team status. Trials are the normal route into that squad.
When are basketball trials held?
Trials usually take place before the academic season starts and/or at set points in the term. Contact us for the next trial date.

One of the things we are trying to build is an environment for people to develop and grow as players. Welcoming new people into the family is something we are excited to do in the 23/24 season.
