Midwifery Apprenticeship BSc (Hons)
About the course
Midwifery Apprenticeship (3 years) is a highly trained role to support the delivery of effective, safe and responsive care to women. This apprentice course will enable you to develop the knowledge, understanding, skills and behaviours to practise as a registered midwife and achieve professional registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC). You will also be awarded a BSc (Hons) Midwifery degree as the course is founded on the NMC Standards for Pre-Registration Midwifery Education (NMC, 2019).
Midwives provide care and support to women and their families during all stages of pregnancy, including delivery of the baby and care and support in the labour and the postnatal period.
Delivery
The Midwifery Apprenticeship programme mirrors the undergraduate full-time degree and you will complete the same modules and undertake the same assessments. As an apprentice, you will undertake placements with protected practice learning time as well as time to attend your course at university. This course runs across three years.

If you do not meet the academic English language requirements for your course, you may be eligible to enrol onto a Pre-sessional English course. The length of the course will depend on your current level of English and the requirements for your degree programme. We offer a 5-week and an 11-week pre-sessional course.
Responsibilities and duty of the apprentice
The programme is designed to educate midwifery apprentices to meet the NMC requirements for registration as a midwife and be fully prepared to meet the midwife’s role. This requires practitioners to have the knowledge, skills and attitudes to deliver high-quality care to women and their families.
The programme will give apprentices the opportunity to develop personally and professionally and be able to practice effectively in a variety of settings, working both independently and in collaboration with other professionals.
End Point Assessment (EPA)
Midwifery apprentices will have an End Point Assessment which is fully integrated with completion of the NMC requirements. Apprentices will have an external EPA assessor present at the Progression and Award Board who will ratify that the apprentices have completed all the required elements to gain NMC registration.
