Premium accommodation
We offer premium accommodation in both East and West Halls. In East Halls, the premium accommodation is in Longbridge House and in West Halls, it is located in Felix, Kwame, Jamilah and Ailsa Houses. They offer the same en-suite rooms and shared kitchen living as our standard halls; however, the rooms and kitchens have been recently refurbished.

Standard accommodation
Affordable on-campus, en-suite accommodation. All bedrooms include under-bed storage, Wi-Fi with speeds up to 100mbps, a study desk, and a chair, as well as built-in shelving and cupboard space.

Payment plans and rent information
A student accommodation payment plan is a way of paying your student housing rent by dividing the total amount due into several equal, smaller instalments. These are then paid throughout the year. The total amount that you owe will be your total rent for your tenancy, minus any payments you have already made. Your payment plan will be available for you to set up via UEL Direct within 72 hours of accepting your room offer for the Halls of Residence. You will be emailed as soon as your payment plan task is ready for you to complete.
Payment plan options
Your student accommodation payment plan options are dependent on what tenancy type you select:
- Term 1 only or Term 2 only Tenancy: Option to pay in 3 instalments.
- Full Academic Year Tenancy: Option to pay in 3 or 7 instalments.
- Full Academic Year and Summer Tenancy: Option to pay in 3, 7, or 10 instalments.
All tenancy types come with the option to pay for the entire cost of your rent at the start of your stay, in one payment. To do this, set up any payment plan and make a payment for all instalments at once. Instructions on how to make a payment are below.
Setting up your payment plan
Open UEL Direct and enter your UEL email (Example: u1234567@uel.ac.uk). Enter your password, which is your date of birth in the following format: ddMmyyyy (Example: 06Jan1991). Then, click the “Sign-in” button. You will only have access to UEL Direct once your enrolment task is available to you. If you have issues accessing UEL Direct, please contact the Student Hub via 0208 223 4444.
Once you are logged into UEL Direct, go to “My Payments” > “Student Statement” > “Set Up Payment Plan” > select instalment amounts > “Confirm and Submit” > “Exit”.
If you wish to change your payment plan, please email residentiallife@uel.ac.uk. You cannot change your payment plan if you are in arrears.
Deadline to set up your payment plan
We ask that all students set up their student accommodation payment plan before their arrival at the Halls of Residence. However, we understand that due to access to UEL Direct and Enrolment, this may not always be possible. We therefore have the following deadlines in place:
- If you arrive as part of the September intake, your payment plan must be set up by 30 October. Failure to set up your payment plan will result in your full rent being due on 30 October.
- If you arrive mid-year, after the September intake, you need to ensure your payment plan is set up by the 30th of the month you arrive. For example, if you arrive on 5 November, your payment plan must be set up by 30 November. Failure to set up your payment plan by the 30th of your arrival month will result in your full rent being due on the 30th of that month.
How to make a payment
Paying via recurring card payments is no longer an option for paying your rent. Payments need to be paid manually via UEL Direct by going to My Payments > Student Statement > “Make an Accommodation Payment”. You will then be directed to the payment system, Flywire.
