Eligibility criteria

Our Accommodation Guarantee 2024/25

New Home Students

The University of East London guarantees accommodation to new students who meet the following eligibility criteria and who apply by the Accommodation Guarantee deadline date:

  • Are 18 years old (or over)
  • Are starting their first year of studies at UEL
  • Are studying on a full-time mode of attendance
  • Have an Unconditional Firm offer from the University

New EU and International Students

The University of East London guarantees accommodation to new EU and International students who fit within the below eligibility criteria:

  • Are 18 years old (or over)
  • Are starting their first year of studies at UEL
  • Are studying on a full-time mode of attendance
  • Have an Unconditional Firm offer from the University

Returning Students

The University of East London guarantees accommodation to returning students who meet the following eligibility criteria and who apply by the Accommodation Guarantee deadline date:

  • Are 18 years old (or over)
  • Are studying on a full-time mode of attendance
  • Must have passed their previous year of studies and re-enrolled to the University
  • Must have no previous rent arrears or serious disciplinary

Care leavers, students with a disability, estranged students and refugees

The University of East London guarantees accommodation to new students who are Care Leavers, estranged students, students with a relevant disability and refugees who meet the following eligibility criteria and who apply by the Accommodation Guarantee deadline date:

  • Are 18 years old (or over)
  • Are studying on a full-time mode of attendance
  • Have an Unconditional Firm offer from the University
  • Provide confirmation/evidence from the local authority

Deadline Dates

Deadline Dates are in place to help students secure Accommodation. Students who meet the eligibility criteria above and who are therefore eligible for guaranteed accommodation must complete the application, payment, and acceptance stages of the process within the deadlines listed below to secure their room. Please note that all students must satisfy the eligibility criteria before their application is processed.

*Students who apply later than the Accommodation Guarantee Deadline listed below are not guaranteed accommodation.

In exceptional circumstances, the University of East London reserves the right to guarantee accommodation to specific prospective residents or cohorts outside of the below deadline dates.

Accommodation Guarantee

All Applications

The Residential Life Team are currently operating a waiting list for the UEL Halls of Residence. Applications for Term 1 and Term 2 will remain open and will be processed in accordance with the below:

  • Application Verified – within 48 hours of satisfying the eligibility criteria
  • Provisional Room Offer – as soon as a room becomes available
  • Payment Deadline – 7 days after Provisional Room Allocation
  • Acceptance Deadline – 7 days after the Provisional Room Offer Confirmed

Students under 18

Unfortunately, we cannot house any students under 18 years old. The preferred option, in this case, is for the student to make other housing arrangements (e.g. staying with a family member, friend, Airbnb, etc) until they are 18 and then apply to move into Halls. Alternatively, if a student applies to live in Halls before they are 18 years old, they can secure a room by agreeing to pay rent from the tenancy start date with the understanding that they cannot move into that room until the day they turn 18. The latter option would be our recommendation as we cannot guarantee that accommodation will still be available if the student waits until they are 18 to apply. SMART Rent Deferral Scheme

If you are classed as a "Home" fee paying student, have been assessed for maximum Student Finance support, and are experiencing financial difficulty such that you are unable to pay the £500 advance rent payment, please call residential life on 0208 223 4445 to discuss your circumstances further.
