Applying for accommodation
If you have any problems, please contact us on +44 (0)20 8223 4445 or email residentiallife@uel.ac.uk.
Before you apply: eligibility criteria
To apply for student accommodation, you need a firm offer from the University of East London. You can submit an application with a conditional firm offer (CF), but it will not be verified until you have an unconditional firm offer (UF).
Unfortunately, we cannot house students under the age of 18. Students under 18 are advised to seek housing off campus. Alternatively, if a student applies to live in Halls before they are 18 years old, they can secure a room by agreeing to pay rent from the tenancy start date with the understanding that they cannot move into that room until the day they turn 18. We cannot guarantee that accommodation will still be available if the student waits until they are 18 to apply. Please contact us if this applies to you.
Before applying, you must also check if you meet the student accommodation eligibility criteria listed below:.
When applying for student housing, it’s important to plan ahead. Rooms are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis within the guarantee deadlines. This means that even if you are eligible, applying early ensures the best choice of room types and locations. Students who delay may still get accommodation but may have fewer options available.
New students
The University of East London guarantees accommodation to new home, EU and international students who meet the following eligibility criteria and who apply by the Accommodation Guarantee deadline date:
- Are 18 years old (or over)
- Are starting their first year of studies at UEL
- Are studying on a full-time mode of attendance
- Have an Unconditional Firm offer from the University
Returning students
The University of East London guarantees accommodation to returning students who meet the following eligibility criteria and who apply by the Accommodation Guarantee deadline date:
- Are 18 years old (or over)
- Are studying on a full-time mode of attendance
- Must have passed their previous year of studies and re-enrolled to the University
- Must have no previous rent arrears or serious disciplinary
Applying for on-campus housing is particularly beneficial if you want to live close to lectures, benefit from all-inclusive rent, and continue enjoying the convenience of campus facilities such as libraries, gyms, and study spaces.
Care leavers, students with a disability, estranged students and refugees
The University of East London guarantees accommodation to new students who are Care Leavers, estranged students, students with a relevant disability and refugees who meet the following eligibility criteria and who apply by the Accommodation Guarantee deadline date:
