Students under 18
Unfortunately, we cannot house any students under 18 years old. The preferred option in this case is for the student to make other housing arrangements (e.g. staying with a family member, friend, Airbnb, etc) until they are 18 and then apply to move into Halls. Alternatively, if a student applies to live in Halls before they are 18 years old, they can secure a room by agreeing to pay rent from the tenancy start date with the understanding that they cannot move into that room until the day they turn 18. The latter option would be our recommendation as we cannot guarantee that accommodation will still be available if the student waits until they are 18 to apply. Please contact us if this applies to you.
SMART Rent Deferral Scheme
If a student is facing financial hardship and is unable to pay the £500 advance rent payment, they may be eligible for support via SMART’s Rent Deferral Scheme. Please note that only new students from the UK or EU are eligible for this scheme.
The Rent Deferral Scheme is not a loan, but an agreement to postpone the £500 advance rent payment. The £500 will be split equally into the student’s instalment plan when they are setting up their payment plan. Students must pay the £250 deposit to be considered for this scheme.
If a student is unable to make the £500 payment and would like more information on the SMART’s Rent Deferral Scheme, please contact us.
Please note this option is not available for Term 2 tenancies.
