Dr Brian Whiting

Principal Lecturer & Leader, Surveying

Brian has a B.Sc. (Hons.) Land Surveying Sciences at North East London Polytechnic and have worked in both the land surveying and offshore/hydrographic industries.  His PhD research was in the Optimisation of the Design of Geodetic Networks. During his time as a lecturer, Brian was awarded a secondment which he spent with  British Petroleum's Surveyiing and Cartography Division  and Global Surveys Ltd. where he developed his knowledge and skills of GPS and offshore seismic investigation.  Brian has been external examiner for both undergraduate and postgraduate courses and research degrees.  He was the Honorary Treasurer and later Council Member of The Hydrographic Society for it's International Operations.   A Fellow of the Chartered Institution of Civil Engineering Surveyors (FInstCES) and member of its Regional Committtee.  He was awarded a Fellowship and Emeritus Membership of The Hydrographic Society (FHydSoc) and is a Member of the Royal Institute of Navigation (MRIN).
