Mr Alan Wilson

Business and Law
Alan is an experienced academic who has been responsible for the design and delivery of many law modules and programmes. He is a former course director and Leader in Learning and Teaching. As Quality Leader for the School of Business and Law, he is chair of the school quality standing committee and leads on the annual review process and the validation of new programmes. Alan has taught for many years and specialises in contract law, consumer law and EU law.
After qualifying as a barrister, Alan worked as a lawyer for the Consumers' Association where he became Deputy Head of the Legal Department under David Tench. He led a team of lawyers and campaigned for changes in the law on sale of goods rights and exemption clauses in consumer contracts. Alan has written widely on consumer law for Which? and other journals and whilst at the Consumers' Association he appeared regularly on radio and television. He organised and delivered training courses on consumer law for the Institute of Consumer Advisors and local authorities. He has also contributed legal advice as a journalist in the Guardian, Financial Times and the Observer. For many years he had a column on the Guardian website entitled "Ask Alan".
Alan is a non-practising Barrister and a member of Gray's Inn. He is also a Fellow of the Higher Education Authority and a member of the Society of Legal Scholars and the Association of Law Teachers.
