Mr Allan Taylor


Humanities and Creative Industries

Allan has worked as a feature writer specialising in commercial content, writing advertorial, native and branded content for media owners like BBC Worldwide and publications such as Radio Times and Lonely Planet Traveller. He is currently finishing his practice-led PhD thesis entitled ‘Performance, Photography, Performativity: what the still image does’ at Falmouth University. Activities and responsibilities: Teaching both theory and practice, Allan supervises execution and development of students’ creative ideas and prepares students for careers in the media industry. He also encourages students to think reflexively about their practice and how theory informs their creative ideas. Areas of Interest/Summary of Expertise: Allan’s research interests lie in the ‘doing’ of imagery and photography in relation to contemporary society, the documentation of live art and performance, the relationship between fine art and advertising and digital innovation in the media industries.     I am currently co-authoring a chapter on documenting performance through photography for an upcoming Bloomsbury book and I am an active member of TaPRA’s Documenting Performance Working Group. My practice-as-research has been exhibited in China and London, as well as presented at conferences nationwide.
