I have been working at UEL since September 2015, as a Senior Lecturer in Secondary Mathematics Education. I am currently responsible for Initial Teacher Training of PGCE, SDS and SDT trainees, and am the Programme Leader for the Mathematics Subject Knowledge Enhancement Course (MEC) and the iPGCE. I have also previously supported on the MA Creativity, Imagination and Learning Module.
I completed a BSc in Mathematics at Queen Mary University of London in 2004, after which I trained as a mathematics teacher at the Institute of Education completing my PGCE in the summer of 2005. I began working as a mathematics teacher in Hackney, alongside which I completed a Masters in Teaching, with my dissertation focussing on the impact of project-based learning for teaching mathematics. I have worked as a mathematics teacher and Head of Department for both primary and secondary, and have worked in FE as a mathematics lecturer in Warwickshire.
My career in HEI began at the Institute of Education (UCL) as a Lecturer in Secondary Mathematics Education. I also worked as a Visiting Lecturer at St. Mary's University, after which I was employed there as a Lecturer in Secondary Mathematics. I have also worked as a Senior Lecturer at London Metropolitan University, where I was the Course Leader for the 24-week Mathematics Enhancement Course and responsible for leading a team of 5 members of staff.
In 2011, I decided to go back into full-time study and completed a MSc in Biomedical Engineering. Whilst studying I worked as a Visiting Lecturer at London Metropolitan University, and in summer 2014 I taught the Secondary mathematics PGCE for the ULT programme at the UCL Institute of Education. Alongside this, I also sat up and ran a Youth Academy in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets, where I was responsible for a team of 7 members of teaching and non-teaching staff, and taught KS2, KS3 and GCSE mathematics and English.
In September 2014, I returned to St Mary's University as a Senior Lecturer, and I was responsible for planning and teaching on the secondary mathematics ITT programme and the 16 and 8 week mathematics subject knowledge enhancement courses.
Since starting at UEL in Setember 2015, I have taken on responsibility for the Core Content on the Secondary ITT Programme, and am the Module Leader for the Research Informed Practice Module. I have also taken on the responsibility of Programme Leader for the mathematics SKE and the new UEL iPGCE, a blended learning programme developed for educators working outside the UK.
In July 2017 I was awarded Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
