Dr. Panagiotis Fotaris

Senior Lecturer / Programme Leader BSc (Hons) Digital Media Design

Dr. Panagiotis Fotaris is the Programme Leader of BSc (Hons) Digital Media Design. He is a creative computing and video games enthusiast with a keen interest in pedagogy and the use of technology to support teaching and learning.

    Dr. Panagiotis Fotaris is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Arts and Digital Industries and has been Programme Leader for Digital Media Design since 2014. He has previously taught in a broad range of Computer Science and Design-related topics at the University of West London, Abertay University, and the University of Macedonia. At UEL his teaching focuses on interaction design, web programming, app development, augmented reality, and user experience design.

    Panagiotis has extensive working experience in the software and culture industries as web developer, graphic designer, radio/music producer, podcaster, DJ, and music journalist. Having also worked as learning technologist for King's College London, he has a deep understanding of the pedagogical, social and cultural issues affecting the adoption of new learning technologies.

    Panagiotis's research centres on how we can use Information and Communication Technologies to maximise the student learning experience. He has received funding for several Technology Enhanced Learning projects and is currently exploring opportunities for collaboration with industrial and academic partners on Horizon 2020, Erasmus+ and other research projects.

    Overview

    Panagiotis Fotaris's research centres on how we can use Information and Communication Technologies to maximise the student learning experience. He has had a number of funded research projects and has presented his work in several international academic conferences and refereed journals.

    Panagiotis is also a member of the EmotionUX usability lab team based at UEL's Docklands campus. The lab is a research facility for UEL students who work closely with industry partners to develop methodologies for testing and understanding user experience.

    Dr Fotaris welcomes expressions of interest in doctoral research in any of the following areas of research: gamification; game-based learning; augmented reality; MOOCs; learning analytics; technology enhanced learning; UX; data visualisation; Internet of Things.
